Nordic Walking or Nordic Running?

Nordic Walking or Nordic Running - that is the question!! The answer I am pleased to say is ‘each to their own’. After purchasing the Leki Ultratrail FX One poles recently, it immediately got me conjuring up images in my head of trail running with my lovely new poles in some amazing woodland in Scandinavia! The question on my mind was ‘how do you actually apply the ten step Nordic Walking technique to running? In fact - the question for me was - is it possible and more to the point, will I be able to even master it? I soon realised that Nordic Walking and Nordic Running are pretty different and it takes a bit of practice to feel confident. The great news is I can happily say I am now absolutely loving taking my Ultratrail FX poles on my runs. In fact my Nordic Walking poles have brought a whole new dimension to my daily jog. Before, my enthusiasm for a daily jog was starting to wane, but now, with the poles in my hands, I have a new vim and zest for keeping my jogging routine going. The Nordic Walking poles bring me extra stability (especially on the downhills); extra support and power (especially on the uphills) and the game changer is I do feel my jogging action is in fact now putting less stress and strain on the body. It’s all pretty exciting if you like to include jogging in your cross training approach. If not of course, Nordic Walking alone seems to get my heart rate up very nicely on its own. Going forwards, I definitely plan to mix it up a bit between both Nordic Walking and Nordic Running (or steady Nordic Jogging in my case)!
